WHAT?: Brief Thoughts On WWE’s Capitol Punishment PPV And The Death Of Jackass Star Ryan Dunn

I have been quite busy for the last few days, but I didn’t forget about yall. I didn’t think I was going to see Capitol Punishment, but I ended up watching it with my fam on Father’s Day so that was cool. When I review shows I usually have them on my DVR so I can rewind certain parts and get a more critical analysis, but that’s not the case here. I am writing this using nothing but my memory and with the amount marijuana I consume on a regular basis I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the crappiest PPV recap I have ever put together, I’m just keeping it real with you guys. Instead of going the traditional route and doing the whole review thing, I have decided to bring back WHAT? in order to express my thoughts on the PPV. Also, as a huge MTV mark (at least back when they weren’t playing Teen Mom on a continuous loop) I was shocked to hear about the passing of Ryan Dunn. I loved when MTV used to show Jackass all the time and have enjoyed their crazy antics on the big screen, so hearing about what happened totally sucked balls. Anyways, usually when I write WHAT? I try to fit in as many things as possible, but this edition is only about Capitol Punishment and Ryan Dunn. Enjoy.

This past Sunday, WWE broadcasted their first annual Capitol Punishment PPV. The event took place in Washington DC. Here are the quick results:

United States Championship Match – Kofi Kingston (c) vs Dolph Ziggler – Winner by decision and new WWE United States Champion: Dolph Ziggler

Alex Riley vs The Miz – Winner: Alex Riley

Alberto Del Rio vs Big Show – Winner by decision: Alberto Del Rio

WWE Intercontinental Championship Match – Wade Barrett vs Ezekiel Jackson – Winner and new WWE Intercontinental Champion: Ezekiel Jackson

CM Punk vs Rey Mysterio – Winner: CM Punk

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Randy Orton (c) vs Christian – Winner and still World Heavyweight Champion: Randy Orton

Jack Swagger vs Evan Bourne – Winner: Evan Bourne

WWE Championship Match: John Cena (c) vs R-Truth – Winner and still WWE Champion: John Cena

So out of the seven advertised matches, I predicted four correct winners. I feel like I deserve a prize or something. Anyways, here are some of my thoughts on the WWE Capitol Punishment PPV:

The last time Dolph Ziggler beat Kofi Kingston for a secondary championship, he did something wrestling fans haven’t seen in a long time, he brought prestige to a championship that had lost its luster. The Intercontinental Championship had become nothing more than a prop and a burden to have to carry through airport security, but Dolph took the opportunity he was given and made the best of it. He stepped up his game, had the best quality matches of his career and made me believe he was ready for the next level. The next level seemed to be out of his grasp though as he quickly started free-falling back into the depths of midcard hell after being teased with one of the most pathetic World Heavyweight Championship runs the WWE has ever seen. Then for some reason, someone thought that Dolph needed a make-over, so they had him cut his hair, dye it back to its natural brown and had him lose matches. The “new and improved” Dolph Ziggler sucked. Someone must have realized their mistake because a few months later Dolph was once again sporting his bleached blonde look and starting picking up victories again. Fast forward to Capitol Punishment and Dolph once again finds himself in possession of a secondary championship that has lost its luster. What I want to know is, will he once again bring prestige to a championship which people stopped caring about a long time ago? Or will he be someone else’s stepping stone as they ascend up the card? Time will tell, but I do hope that this championship run mirrors the excellent run he had with the Intercontinental Championship.

One thing that bothered me about Dolph’s match was the finish. Now call me old fashion, but when someone locks you in a sleeper hold, isn’t the referee supposed to raise your hand three times and if it falls on the third try then that’s when your opponent is declared the winner? Sure Kofi was knocked the fuck out, but the ref was behind him when the move was applied. Dolph could have easily used an illegal choke on Kofi rendering him unconscious as a result. I really feel that the ref should have checked if the move was properly applied and raised Kofi’s arm up three times like I have seen WWE referees do so many times in the past.

I’m still surprised that Alex Riley beat The Miz at Capitol Punishment. Miz has been getting owned on television which would usually indicated a PPV victory for him as he seeked out his revenge, but WWE changed it up and threw that logic out the window. I’m even more surprised that Riley was able to beat The Miz with a simple, yet sloppy looking, DDT. Riley was not as bad as I expected him to be in the ring and I marked out when he snatched Michael Cole up from the announce desk, but I think it was a bit too soon for Riley to beat his former employer. Also, Riley going over the former WWE Champion might have been a mistake considering that a few sites are reporting that Riley badly bruised his right bicep and there is fear that it might actually be a torn bicep tendon. Talk about a momentum killer.

Ok, so Big Show fucked up Mark Henry beyond belief on Smackdown this past friday so Henry decided to cash in his receipt and return the favor at Capitol Punishment. Considering that both men are some of the slowest most boring guys in the ring I am disappointed that someone in creative though this was a good idea. Don’t get me wrong, I thought the Smackdown stretcher job was pretty awesome and I enjoyed the destruction of the Big Show at the PPV, but I really don’t want to see these two go at it in the ring. Seeing that both these guys are on different brands the build up will be interesting to say the least, but if they end up facing each other at the Money In The Bank PPV then I predict that match will suck more than porn set fluffers. [Fluffer(s): A person or group of people on the set of a pornographic film that sucks cock(s) between takes to keep the performer(s) erect for the remainder of the scene].

Alberto Del Rio locking in his cross breaker finisher on Big Show’s leg was very creative on his part considering that the move is usually locked on his opponents arm. His ability to adapt on the fly will take him a serious contender to John Cena’s WWE Championship in the near future.

Ezekiel Jackson won the Intercontinental Championship and further diminished the value of the title.

CM Punk and Rey Mysterio had a great match at the Capitol Punishment PPV, but what do you expect, they have wrestled each other so many damn times that I’m sure they could finish each others sentences by now.

Ditto the above statement for the Randy Orton vs Christian match. I have a feeling that we will see yet another match between these two since Christian’s foot was clearly under the rope as the referee counted the three.

It was really hard being mature when I posted this pic because I seriously wanted to draw a dick going into Bourne’s mouth because I thought it would be hilarious, but for the sake of journalistic integrity I’m just going to leave it alone. By the way, Evan Bourne and Jack Swagger had an unannounced match at the Capitol Punishment PPV and nobody cared.

Obama stopped by Capitol Punishment and had some of the greatest backstage segments in the history of the WWE. If you don’t believe that to be true then you are a terrorist and must be dealt with accordingly. The President even did a special Barack-a-roni. USA!!! USA!!! USA!!!

The conspiracy continues as Little Jimmy cost R-Truth his WWE Championship opportunity by blinding him with his drink. In any other match this would be grounds for John Cena’s disqualification, but because the ref, the Jimmy and the Cena were white, they ended up finding a way to hold the black man down. Some might say that this was a conspiracy, but I say that it is business as usual in Washington DC.

I really hate these happy-go-lucky John Cena PPV victory endings. I really hope he losses the championship soon or I may never watch the WWE ever again.

In non-wrestling news; on June 20, 2011, Ryan Dunn from Jackass fame died from a fatal car accident when the Porsche he was driving flew over a highway guardrail. The car slammed into a tree and bursted into flames shortly after. His passenger also died.

The picture above is all that remains of Ryan Dunn’s Porsche.

Just a few days ago I had the chance to catch a special Jackass 3.5 airing on MTV and one of the funniest moments in that movie was when Ryan Dunn strapped on a cock rocket and shot it straight into Bam Margera’s ass. I laughed so fucking hard that I almost cried. I say that to say this, Ryan Dunn did some crazy ass shit just so fans of Jackass can laugh their asses off. From getting his beard ripped off with Krazy Glue, to shoving a toy car up his ass, he did it all for our amusement. As a fan of Jackass since its inception, I am saddened to hear about his loss, but I can relish in the fact that he went out with a bang. In his short 34 years on earth, Ryan has lived and enjoyed life more than people twice his age will ever be able to. Ryan (and the rest of the Jackass crew) has provided me with so many laughs that I am eternally grateful. I wouldn’t imagine doing half the shit he did, so I salute him for going that extra mile in the name of comedy. I really would love to hear Bam Margera’s reaction to Ryan’s death because they were inseparable and when I heard that he had a passenger in the car that died with him Bam was the first person I thought of, which would have made this even suckier news. I’m sure he is devastated and I can understand why. I have lost a few friends and it really fucking sucks to have to go through that shit. I’m about to rewatch every Jackass movie I own with a new-found appreciation for what these guys do just to entertain us. I’m sure Ryan is in heaven right now supergluing his hand to God’s beard and ripping that motherfucker out by the roots. Who knows, he might be in hell shooting cock rockets up the Devil’s ass for all we know. Either way, he is going to make everyone in the afterlife laugh their fucking asses off. Thanks for all the laughs Ryan, may you rest in peace.

Random Thoughts on WWE Raw coming your way by morning J. Think I’m gonna alternate and do WWE one week and TNA the next.

Sad to hear about Dunn, he was one of my favorite Jackass guys. Drinking, driving, and fast cars are a bad combo. I really feel bad for his family and friends right now, as he seemed to be a really lovable guy to those close to him. I’d imagine Bam is devastated. Also, I’m sure April Margera feels like she’s lost a son. That’s rough, no matter who you are.

    • June 21, 2011 at 6:56 pm

I just saw an interview with April and she does feel like she has lost a son. Phil just sat there looking hungry, lol. I just read some shit on TMZ about Robert Ebert talking down on the drunk driving aspect of the accident and Bam finally broke his silence to tell him to shut the fuck up.

In other drunk people news, Scott Hall has been arrested for being a drunk.

Tell the truth about why you don’t like the happy PPV endings with Cena. You’re just jealous a wrestler didn’t invite you to the ring and pose with you…lol! What’s funny is that the kid is probably going to become the next Edge or something and talk about this very moment when he has to retire.

As for Dunn, perfect words! I remember catching a few minutes of Jackass over the weekend and seeing Dunn and Steve-o stllt boxing. My favorite Dunn moment was during Viva La Bam, when they went to the Mall of America. Dunn bought a $2 coffee and paid the guy with his hundred bucks and let him keep the change as a tip! RIP 😦

    • June 21, 2011 at 5:12 pm

I own Jackass 1, 2, and 2.5. It came as a bundle for like $15! I might watch one of them today. RIP Dunn.

    • June 21, 2011 at 6:58 pm

I would kick Cena really hard in the balls. That would be huge for the site and I would be the undisputed hero in the IWC, lol.

TKO already destroyed him so I wouldn’t want to rap with that loser, lol. If he does fuck me up then I could sue the WWE and John Cena for millions 🙂

Yes I did own him secretly. The ending with the kid in the ring was on purpose aimed directly at the IWC. You dont get more PG than a lil kid in the ring celebrating with World Entertainment Champion Rainbow Bright. I would do a song with Cena though. But I’d LL him and let him rap first then dissect him on the same song later like what happened to Canibus (hip hop reference, Jcity will get it lol)

              • June 22, 2011 at 11:28 pm

Ha, 4,3,2,1 reference for the fucking win!!!! I loved that song and the drama that ensued after. Canibus was on fire in 98 with all his cameos and I thought he was the future of hiphop, but LL whooped that ass. The Ripper Strikes Back was an awesome song from LL considering that everyone put him in that mainstream sellout category. I cant front though 2nd Round Knockout was banging too. I’m like one of the only people I know that actually likes Canibus 1st cd. I still fucks with some of his underground shit. He got some some shit with Keith Murray called UnderGods because I guess they think they are the gods of the underground hiphop scene but I would give that title to Immortal Technique. That brought back good memories, Im about to dig through the old CD collection and find that LL and Canibis battle.

Also, as much as I enjoyed the jackass shows as well as movies, Dunn was just plain stupid. I was once busted for DWI and let me tell you something, its not a fun process. Now two kids later, it was a mistake that will never happen again. Dont know what him and his freidn were saying in the car that night, but something isnt right. They either didnt know where they were or they were both hammered to the point no one should have been driving. If its the later, I blame the bartender for not saying something.

    • June 21, 2011 at 7:08 pm

I think the problem was the actual car he was driving. I’m sure he drove drunk before. Shit, I’ve driven drunk before. Some people can handle it. I’m sure he has drank alot throughout his life and this wasnt a big deal to him. The problem was his love for speed. According to Bam’s mother, Dunn loved to drive fast. His Porsche could do speeds of up to 190mph making it barely legal to operate but low enough to not be considered illegal like some Lamborghini type vehicles. What I think happened was he was showing off the speed to his friend. He must have hit a speed bump or pot hole because the car flew over a guardrail and cars usually never go flying anywhere. Pedal to the metal, balls to the wall. The thing about that is that if giving a second chance I bet Dunn would have drove even faster knowing he was going to die.The life of a daredevil. RIP.

Stupid or not(it is), now is the time to honor the guy’s life, not to talk about how stupid he was. I mean, imagine going to a funeral of the person who does like this and saying how sutpid he was. You’d get jumped going out to your car. I read a comment today from somebody saying that their only regret is that Dunn isn’t going to be in prison for the rest of his life getting raped til he bled several times a day. It’s really disgusting.

My dad has had issues with the drink. I’m so proud of him for being sober for 27 years. Glad he’s still around.

I been away for a while, under the radar but I’m still alive J. A few things I’d like to touch on.

Good to see the site activity and responses. You seem to respond to every sensible comment and its good to see. The writing is entertaining and funny. I like how you had a few things to say when they mattered and others (like Big Zeke winning the IC Title) were kept short. Rightfully so. I dig the rated R jokes too, I actually laughed at Evan Bourne thing. He looked like he had his first piece of pussy and it blew his mind. I agree on the Cena endings. 3 in a row now, nothing to pay $50 over. No controversy, no “i gota tune in tomorrow moments. It’s crazy yhtat the business is declining and yet they seem to have no interest in being edgy. I dont mean “flash ur tits, drink beer and say ass, bitch and damn. I mean compelling.

I watched Cap Pun last Sunday (note I didnt say bought) It was just a good ass RAW but a poor PPV because it was forgettable. Nothing happened that was even remotely interesting. Some good matches yes but no real stories told. No fire in the rivalry. Nothing

Lastly, I was probably watching Jackass 3.5 when you were. Crazy, dude defies death at every turn and it catches up to him. It’s scary and sad. RIP Dunn

Infamous Crew member TKO, alive and well

I was wondering what the fuck happened to you, lol. Building an interactive site where I can build with other fans is important for long term growth. It also helps me gauge what kinda stuff I should write about. This site might not be as huge as other sites, but the sense of community is there. I know some people read us and might be shy to join in but I welcome everyone with open arms. I do wish WWE would let the Divas show some tits though so I can start with the Tits or Gtfo again and not seem like a smut peddler since they would be doing it too, lol. The PPV was aight, nothing great or anything, but I think the Money In The Bank might be worth getting. I hope it has a good build but WWE has disappointed me before so I will wait and see about that.

      • June 22, 2011 at 10:23 am

Vickie seems to be one of those people you can’t turn face.

By the way, who are some of the Superstars in the WWE that you can’t imagine as a face? I would have to go with Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, and Michael Cole. As for faces I can’t imagine as heels, I’d go with Rey Mysterio, Evan Bourne, and Hornswoggle…is it bad that I feel that little people would make bad heels?

        • Capt. Smooth
          June 22, 2011 at 4:36 pm

Maybe Vickie can turn face by helping her daughter?

As far as the others go:

Sheamus: I could see him as a man of the people/folk hero type of face.

Del Rio: His long term plans with WWE is to push him all the way as a heel then turn him face. I can see it, too. Look at the way he says he’s annouces himself. It’s with so much energy. Easy face.

Cole: I doubt it. It would take a bunch to do so.

Rey: Not a chance, but he wants to during his angle with Sin Cara.

Bourne: He has before and there is something in his look that can come across like a sneer.(I’d love to see him play Mega-Man in a movie!)

          Horny: No fucking way!

          • June 22, 2011 at 9:28 pm

Her daughter should be a heel too. Eddie started out as a heel so it will only be right.

    Capt. Smooth :

I’d love to see a RAW talkback.

It might be too similar to Commenfest though.

I’m going to catch hate for this, I’m sure, but it has to be said…

Is it sad that Dunn died? Yes. It really is. He was a young guy who loved life, loved his friends, and was crazy to do just about anything you asked him to. I understand that.

However, I don’t understand people justifying what he did, or somehow blaming other things for his death. This reminds me of Chris Benoit. Benoit was one of the best wrestlers in history, bar none. I will always remember the amazing matches he had, but will always know him for what he did before he died. the truth of the matter is that even though he was a phenomenal wrestler, he brutally murdered his wife and son, and then killed himself. There’s no one to blame there but him. My feelings are the same with Dunn. Being a prior DWI offender, he new exactly what he was doing. Two miles away, he had even previously wrecke before. He knew what he was doing when he chose to get in that car and drive. He willingly put his life, and that of his friend at stake. How can I be expected to feel sorry for that? I feel sorry for his friends and family, I really do. The truth of the matter is this: RyanDunn was a great friend, an amazinly likeable guy, and could’ve done incredible things with his life; however, he chose to make a choice that directly resulted in the agonizing, painful death of two people.

My dad is on disability for a drunk driving accident. He broke every one of his ribs, collapsed both lungs, broke his jaw, exploded his spleen, and broke his kidney into three pieces. does it suck that he’s in pain? Yes. Do I feel sorry for him? No. Drinking and driving is horribly irresponsible, and I don’t feel sorry for people who are willing to let people die rather than know when they’ve had too much to drive. I really liked Dunn, but to hear people (not just on here, but in general) try to place Dunn as some sort of saint is rediculous, at least as far as I’m concerned.

Hate what I’ve written if you want, but at least I’m being honest about it.

People aren’t so much making him into a Saint, they’re just sad he’s dead. He made people laugh and that leaves a mark on others.

Was what he did dumb? Yes.
Does it appear that he brought it onto himself? Yes.
Should he be made into a saint? No.
Are most folks just paying their respects to him? I’d say yes.
Are there more people trashing him than making him into a saint? Big time.

Finally, I just remember these words: “If you want to know what a man’s like take a look at how he treats his inferiors not his equals.”

I agree about that. I’m not trying to talk bad about him as a person at all. He genuinely seemed like a good person. But I think that people do tend to want to blame other things, before placing blame on those truly responsible for their own actions. Like I said, it really is sad that he’s gone. No one should go out as horribly as he did. His family and friends are probably going through one of the worst times they’ve ever experienced. Look at the vid of Bam talking about it. Dunn’s actions didn’t just kill two people. They destroyed the lives of countless people that knew and cared about him. That’s all I’m getting at. No offense to J, but that’s like him blaming the car because it was too fast, and saying it was ok for him to drink and drive. Why blame the car, or even ‘the need for speed’? People are looking for scapegoats instead of just doing what they don’t want to do, and that’s point the blame on where it belongs.

I borught up my step dad. No one made him drink and drive. No one made him start a fight just so he could get more beer. No one else made him almost kill himself in a car wreck. It was all him. I just can’t feel sorry for that. I feel sorry for him dying. I would never wish or justify anyone’s death. It’s more people’s reaction to said death that bother me. Like I said earlier about Benoit, there’s people out there who blame everything but Benoit. He may have been a great person most his life. He may have been one of the best wrestlers ever. But to justify actions that killed people is more insensitive to me than talking bad about the dead. (Which I never intended to do, if it came across that way.)

This is like a whole philosophy deal. It could go on and on. My main issue is that I just don’t think now is the right time to bring up the drinking and driving. In fact, I’d say a great majority of his fans know that it’s bad and just want to be left alone in mourning his death.

I’m sure there is no malice involved in your comments and there is much truth into what you say. The issue is that it doesn’t fit into the mourning and digesting of what is going on.

As far as blame goes, that’s a HUGE can of worms that I’d love to delve into, but I’m a VERY s-s-s-s-l-l-l-l-o-o-o-o-w-w-w-w writer.

What makes me so mad about this whole situation is that the Westboro Baptist Church is protesting at his funeral. They may run into trouble with the whole Jackass crew.(If it’s filmed, and they put it out as Jackass 4, I’d totally go and see it!)

Agreed. Apologies if I seemed to be attacking him as a person, and I second your viewpoint. Don’t put it past the guys to make Westboro Baptist part of a stunt…

No need to say sorry. You were much more classy than many I’ve read.

On the stunt issue, I sooooooo want that!…LOL!
