This Week In WWE by Ray The Rambler

This is my second column on this site. Please check out wrestlingrambles.com and be on the lookout for our first podcast coming soon. Also, would you like THE INFAMOUS JCITY™ to appear on it? That would be cool!

Anyways, hello and welcome to a new column that I felt the urge to write. Simply put, it’s what the title says it is; this week in the WWE. With the last few weeks being rather transcendent, it gave me an urge to write-up a “moments of the week” type thing. I’m unsure if I’ll be writing these up every week, so this is kind of a test column. Enough with the intro, let’s begin!

Raw kicked off with superb wrestling qualities from both Rey Mysterio and The Miz. Firstly, I am not a fan of The Miz, but I’ll be honest and say that he put on a great performance and worked well with Rey. The wrestling we’ve been watching in the last couple of weeks have been outstanding. It’s certainly been a while since we’ve watched wrestling this enjoyable. The last few weeks have been unpredictable to say the least. I am baffled on how good WWE has been with both it’s storytelling and the actual in-ring action. The winner of the match was Rey Mysterio, but you already knew that. I was thrilled to see Rey with that WWE Championship around his waist. Unfortunately, the only thing I disliked about this was him losing it to Cena, but to make it worse, it had to happen on the same night! Unfair is the word to describe how I felt about the situation. Considering he has young kids and a wife, it would have been nice for him to bring it home with him. Sadly, he didn’t. Why did he even win the belt in the first place? My guess would be that perhaps there were late plans blooming around backstage with this whole Punk/Cena angle that WWE were unprepared for.

Triple H’s involvement has made WWE a helluva lot more interesting and exciting. By just using Triple H, WWE has added a little bit of star power that has been lacking on Raw lately. Triple H’s first order of business was to bring back Jim Ross. I was happy and it was great to see JR back on commentary. No disrespect to Michael Cole, but he is an annoying son of a bitch. The guy is not able to call a match and he’s also not good at telling a story, but fortunately for us, JR can do both, so it was nice to see JR back! I hope that with Triple H in charge that there will be NO MORE EMAILS FROM THE ANONYMOUS RAW GENERAL MANAGER. As I assume, I think WWE realized that they could not go anywhere else with it, so they scrapped it all together, which is good. I may very well be wrong, but for now, I can’t see them going anywhere with the GM angle. Also, John Morrison returned to psyche out the disturbed R-Truth. All the Little Jimmies were glad to see JoMo return. Hopefully, in the next few weeks we can see some good potential out of JoMo as it will add an extra spark to Raw.

As we continue with this tale telling couple of weeks on Raw, CM Punk officially made his return to WWE. I always had a distinct feeling that Punk always had a contract with WWE. Why? Simply because he was wearing the “Best In The World” T-Shirt at MITB and he walked out of the event as the WWE Champion. In all honesty, it was clear he had a contract with WWE. Nonetheless, it didn’t damage the storyline at all… it is exciting, unpredictable and enjoyable. Saying that, I didn’t know when he was going to make his return to WWE. I never thought WWE would have brought him back as suddenly as they did. Personally, I thought they would of waited a few weeks and maybe tease us with his new theme “Cult Of Personality”, but regardless, I was still delighted to see him back. What I love most about this storyline is that it’s the best reality based storyline ever. Every week we all look forward to Raw just to see what happens next. All we got to do now is keep watching and enjoying  Monday Night Raw, thanks to CM Punk.

Enough about Raw, let’s talk some Smackdown!

Smackdown started off with an interesting Triple H promo. He said he will have an announcement on Raw regarding the WWE Championship… it was simply simple, but yet a genius tactic. It will make us want to watch Raw on Monday. Anyways, during his promo, Christian interrupted the COO. Triple H said he didn’t like to be interrupted, which is the exact opposite of how Vince ran things on-screen. It’s a different situation with the new “owner” which is a nice change. We still want to know what will happen with Vince though, so that’s another great potential storyline (hopefully) that will eventually unfold. Back to Christian. It was refreshing to see a segment with different characters. Certainly it’s been a while since we last seen Triple H and Christian in the ring together. As Triple H said, he disliked meetings which was also genius because he can spontaneously change the landscape of the WWE as he sees fit. If he ever turns heel and gets booed, it all falls back onto that line.

Zack Ryder is now the official assistant to Teddy Long. I was delighted when he appeared on Smackdown, firstly, because I think it will be better for him to grow there as a Superstar. Secondly, that he appeared quite a lot and made Teddy Long even more interesting. It was hilarious as he was annoying Teddy Long. I can see a bright future for Zack Ryder in the upcoming months. We just have to stay tuned and find out what happens with the internet’s favorite broski.

Daniel Bryan and Wade Barrett seemed to have developed a new feud on Smackdown. It’s always good to see a new fresh feud. If I’m not mistaken, this will be the first time that they ever have a one on one match. Better than seeing Orton vs Christian 40 times. Hopefully, if and when this match happens, it would be entertaining. Both men are good wrestlers that have all the potential in the world to go on and have a great feud. So that’s another positive thing I can add.

I’m really enjoying WWE as of late. So far, it seems that we are heading into a new era. Wrestling fans have dubbed it the “Reality Era”. It’s keeping us on the edge of our seats to say the least. I will continue to watch WWE, week in and week out as long as the product they are pushing now is enjoyable and that’s all I have to say about that. Yes, I just quoted Stone Cold.

So, that’s my column… hope you enjoyed reading it as I enjoyed writing it.

I can’t imagine him turning face after all those weeks of him being mocked for being a “human jar of mayo.” Can you imagine if they turned Heath Slater face after all of the Wendy jokes? Make up your mind WWE! Should we mock Sheamus for being whiter than CM Punk’s new shirt or do you want us to cheer him?

Maybe, Sheamus and Slater can form a team? They both are made fun of for food related issues.

            • July 31, 2011 at 5:55 pm

Christian looks yellow kinda so they should start calling him Mr. Mustard. Mark Henry is Mr. Koolaid so he can play the role of the beverage that goes with the meal. That’s all related to fast food and fast food gives you a Heart Attack so they shall be call the Heart Attackers. It’s brilliant.

The Reality Era has a neat ring to it. It’s the first time I’ve heard that but that’s kind of what it seems like.

It was a good week in WWE, I’m glad to see Morrison and Punk back becuase they’re too of my favourites.

Good column, anyone who doesn’t like the Miz is good with me.

    • Capt. Smooth
      July 31, 2011 at 2:07 pm

We’ll just have to see when/if the IWC turns on Punk. I’m not sure we’ll ever get a “super over face” guy again, because anybody who is pushed to that level gets crapped on so quickly.

    • July 31, 2011 at 3:45 pm

      It’s the CM Punk era.

    • July 31, 2011 at 5:58 pm

You don’t like the Miz? What?!

      • July 31, 2011 at 6:38 pm

He’s no longer awesome. Losing to Riley killed all his heat.

        • July 31, 2011 at 7:08 pm

He’s still awesome. I’m writing a column about him. That column will be cuming soon.

          • July 31, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Cool. I should decap and repost the column he used for one of his promos…

  4. July 31, 2011 at 5:47 pm

Why the diss about the Orton-Christian feud? Yes they have had four matches already (yes just four…it just feels like 40) but it’s a good feud for Orton. What other heel should Orton face at SummerSlam? Mark Henry? Wade Barrett? Cody Rhodes?

    • Capt. Smooth
      July 31, 2011 at 5:49 pm

      The voices in his head?

      • July 31, 2011 at 5:52 pm

The voices in his head left his head and are currently on RAW in R-Truth’s head. Then again, brands don’t really matter anymore so I’m sure his voices might make an appearance on Smackdown again.

        • July 31, 2011 at 6:40 pm

Watch, Orton is going to win the title back at SummerSlam, Christian gets rematch at Night Of Champions and wins, then Orton wins it back at Hell In A Cell by throwing Christian off the Cell, killing him, thus ending the feud once and for all.

          • July 31, 2011 at 7:09 pm

Orton will win the rematch unless the WWE Universe wants to see Sheamus vs. Christian as Night of Champions.

            • July 31, 2011 at 7:37 pm

Sheamus will be feuding with Henry for at least 2 months.

              • Capt. Smooth
                July 31, 2011 at 7:49 pm

I’d laugh if they had Sheamus get a tan due to him being a face.

                • July 31, 2011 at 7:53 pm

They’ll do that. Sheamus’s face turn is puzzling. International faces don’t work. People will still “What” his promos.

                  • July 31, 2011 at 7:56 pm

The British Bulldog was once an effective face so it can happen.

                      July 31, 2011 at 7:57 pm

All Sheamus needs are the dreadlocks.

                    • July 31, 2011 at 7:59 pm

The British Bulldog didn’t get much promo time either. And Bulldog was never a top superstar in the company. He was pretty much a jobber by 1999.

  5. July 31, 2011 at 5:50 pm

Teasing Punk’s return for a few weeks with his new theme would be interesting but unfortunately it wouldn’t work in the Internet Era. It would have taken less than a day for the IWC to come to a conclusion that the song is in reference to CM Punk and it would have taken no more than 3 days for the dirtsheets to find out that CM Punk has re-signed. It would be like 2-21-11 all over again.

    • July 31, 2011 at 6:42 pm

The casual fans wouldn’t know though and those are the ones that really matter to the WWE.

      • July 31, 2011 at 7:10 pm

Screw them. I don’t want to see another 02-21-11 epic fail again. Never again. NEVER AGAIN! NEVER AGAIN!!!

        • July 31, 2011 at 7:38 pm

They hyped up two guys starring at each other and looking at a sign, lol.

          • July 31, 2011 at 7:41 pm

If they did that “Cult of Personality” teaser, how many people would think they were teasing Sting?

            • July 31, 2011 at 7:53 pm

People who don’t watch TNA, so almost everybody, lol.

              • July 31, 2011 at 8:01 pm

Then I guess that means no one would think it would be Colt Cabana. Even the kiddies would know it was CM Punk. Who else who it be? Luke Gallows?

He had like one famous match. Did you ever read Bret Hart’s book. Bret acts like the Bulldog was the greatest superstar of all-time. I think the British Bulldog is overrated. He isn’t even in the Hall of Fame.

          • July 31, 2011 at 8:22 pm

Owen vs Bulldog starts of a bit slow, but it ends up being one hell of a match.

            • July 31, 2011 at 8:29 pm

Must be like the Benoit vs. Angle WWE Championship match in Boston at the Royal Rumble. I watched that match last week. Slow in the beginning but damn the last five or ten minutes are awesome. They were so awesome that I thought Benoit was going to win the match even though I knew Benoit never won the WWE Championship in his career.

              • July 31, 2011 at 8:34 pm

I remember a match where he did win it and then the decision was quickly reversed or something. I think it happened to him twice and he was getting pissed because he kept getting screwed.

I remember watching the Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels match that was on the HBK DVD. He beat Triple H for the WHC and then Bischoff pulled a lame rule out of his ass that Triple H retains because HBK’s shoulders were on the mat at the same time as HHH and tie goes to the champion. It was in HBK’s hometown so it was cool to watch the hometown pop when everyone thought HBK just won the championship.

Benoit should have been on the Greatest Superstars of the 21st Century DVD. Whether or not he really is a bad guy, people can’t deny he was a great wrestler. ESPN still mentions OJ’s name so what’s the problem?

It was all circumstantial evidence. It pointed to her, but couldn’t lead to Casey being there and how a girl died. They should’ve gone for a manslaughter conviction.

      • July 31, 2011 at 8:59 pm

I think there is more proof that OJ’s a killer than Benoit. I hate to get into this topic again but the police say Benoit committed suicide. Bullshit. He was murdered. They say he hung himself using his weight machine but people say he wouldn’t be able to put his head through the hole of the weight machine cord by himself and even if he did, he wouldn’t be able to hang himself without his feet touching the ground because he was too heavy and even if he was able to hang himself with the weight machine, his eye vessels would have popped and he would have pissed and shit himself and none of that stuff happened. Someone killed him and then tried to make it look like he hung himself. If he was murdered then that probably means his family was murdered too.

        • July 31, 2011 at 9:01 pm

By the way, I’m not saying OJ is a killer…I’m just saying I would believe OJ was guilty before believing Benoit was guilty.

        • July 31, 2011 at 9:09 pm

I don’t know if you’ve read the theory that Kevin Sullivan had Chris Benoit murdered because he held a grudge against Benoit for stealing his bitch.

I copied and pasted the following:

The tragic deaths of Chris Benoit and his wife Nancy and son Daniel have shocked the wrestling world. The police are calling it a double-murder-suicide,but is it really? Lets look at some facts. It has been 10 years exactly since Nancy divorced Kevin Sullivan to marry Chris Benoit. In the 1980 Sullivan, along with his then-wife Nancy, were running a gimmick in wrestling of how they were Satanists, and Nancy was known as The Fallen Angel. She later became known as Woman. The trouble with the Satanists gimmick was it was for real, and was not a work,or fake. In the 1990s Kevin Sullivan was the booker for WCW,and he scripted his wife Nancy into having an affair with Chris Benoit who was a member of the Four Horsemen. This made for a good angle, except, the acting became reality as Chris and Nancy actually fell in love and Nancy divorced Sullivan to marry Benoit.

Benoit left the WCW to go to work for the WWE which was then known as the WWF. It is a fact that Sullivan threatened Benoit and told him he would kill him. Yes,that was 10 years ago,but Kevin Sullivan is no dummy. He is known for being a calculating,cold-hearted individual. Today, according to a source close to me,Kevin Sullivan is a high ranking member of the Satanic Church. The police need to consider the possibility that Sullivan carried out these gruesome murders in order to have his revenge, which is what Satanists live for. He could have entered the home, with an accomplice or accomplices and held the Benoit’s at gunpoint,Sullivan could have then bound up Nancy, and made Benoit and his son watch as he strangled the life out of her. Then the next day after making Benoit and his son spend the day in agony, murdered Benoit’s little boy because of his hatred for the offspring of Benoit and Nancy. Then he could have made Benoit wait an entire day before killing him to by hanging him in the basement.

By doing this, not only would Kevin Sullivan have lived out his Satanic Church creed with his lust for revenge, but he would have destroyed Chris Benoit’s reputation which is what has happened now as the wrestling world is attacking the memory of Chris Benoit remembering him as an insane baby killer and wife killer instead of the great World Champion wrestler and friend that he was.

Satanists hate the Bible and the police have stated that a Bible was found next to the bodies of Benoit’s wife and son. This would serve as a bizarre calling card as if to either say What good did your Bible do you? or to throw off investigators to keep them from suspecting Sullivan and his Satanists would have been involved.

Another thing to note is the fact that Kevin Sullivan was also associated with Sherri Martel, who died just a few days before the bodies of Chris Benoit, and his family was found, and the full details of Martell’s death have not been made known as of the time of this writing.

I wonder why the police have not even considered investigating the possibility the Kevin Sullivan killed Benoit,Nancy, and their child. It is certainly a possibility worth looking in to.

Also,Benoit was going to be crowned ECW World Champion on Sunday night. Why would he murder his family and kill himself when he was going to be on top again and make lots more money?

Why would he tie his wife up before killing her? He would have no reason to,but Kevin Sullivan sure would!

Sure he had some problems with Nancy, but that was 4 years ago and what married couple doesn’t have problems? Remember also that they reconciled and as far as everyone knows there has been no other incidents reported.

One also needs to consider the fact that Benoit loved his kids and was so proud of his son that was killed. His kids wore suits and ties to his wrestling events and was proud of their dad. He was loved and respected by all those who knew him.

In my opinion, there is no way he would have murdered his family. This whole murder case has Satanists written all over it and Sullivan is a Satanist and has the motive to murder them.

I am encouraging anyone who reads this to send this to police authorities and circulate it on the internet,so these facts can be investigated, before the case is closed and Benoit is written off in history a murderer. If Sullivan is the real killer, justice should be served!

As a former Pro Wrestler myself, now a born again Christian and world wide evangelist,I am hoping and praying for justice no matter who is responsible.

I saw Kevin Sullivan at Comic Con last year (don’t judge me..I went there to see guys like Mick Foley, Kevin Nash, and Ted DiBiase Sr. I’m not a comic book nerd.). I don’t want to accuse him of anything because I don’t know what the truth is for sure but it was creepy seeing him there because I DID read that thing you posted.

For what it’s worth, Chris Jericho later said that if you showed him 1,000 people that were murder suspects and Benoit was one of them, Benoit would have been the last person Jericho would pick. Jericho said that Benoit loved his family.

I always found it weird that they showed his old matches on RAW when he died. RAW didnt happen. Other people have died and RAW has always went on without a hitch so I think they knew what happened and knew they would erase his legacy so they gave him that one night. If I knew that they was going to erase him I would have recorded that RAW.

Interesting theory. I never thought of it that way. I wasn’t watching the WWE at the time but I have seen William Regal’s interview from that RAW and Regal refused to say much about Benoit because I guess he already found out the additional details about the murders.

I remember him in WCW and he was like some kind of wizard and leader of some mystical cult. I was too young to notice any Satanism though. Hmm…

I wonder what would have happened if I went up to him and started talking about Chris Benoit.

I got to fist bump the Iron Sheik that day…that was cool. I also met Ted DiBiase Sr and I was talking to him kinda while he was texting on his phone and I swear to God that Johnny Fairplay walked right up to him and introduced himself. So my one and only conversation with the Million Dollar Man was interrupted by the husband of Michelle Deighton from Tough Enough. Johnny did say that this was the first time he ever met DiBiase so I guess I was apart of history.

You would have gotten thrown in a van, gangbanged by homeless midgets and then sacrificed to a higher power.

lol…good thing I stay away from him.

One more story…I went to talk to Virgil and he was demanding $20 for a fucking photo. Fucking Virgil! A few weeks before then Daniel Bryan was choking fans on camera for free at my old high school.

Lol. Virgil fucking sucked in the 80s, he sucked in the 90’s and he still sucks now. That reminds me of one of the most hilarious picture ever:

                      Poor Virgil, hahaha.

I think Virgil shows up to all of those Comic Con conventions. What’s worse is that he is always sitting next to Ted DiBiase. You can’t get a photo with Virgil alone. You must take a photo with DiBiase and Virgil together while you hold the fake Million Dollar Belt they have with them. Then Virgil can pocket 50% of the money. I don’t know why Virgil needs the money…didn’t DiBiase Jr pay him a lot of money?

For what it’s worth, I don’t think the t-shirt Punk wore at MITB was an indication Punk had re-signed. The shirt that Punk actually wore was a One-time only shirt. It said, “Chicago 7x17x11” on the back. The WWE has now created a shirt that is similar to that MITB shirt but the city and date from MITB are missing now. And as for him winning the title, as you saw on RAW the next night, they had no problem moving on without him and setting up a tournament to decide the WWE Champion. I can easily see how Cena vs. Del Rio could have been created without Punk. In my opinion, I didn’t know Punk was re-signed until he crashed Comic Con.
