The State Of The Tag Team Division by JoeMan

Remember when the Tag Team Division had a deep roster full of teams and was fun to watch? How about when it was more than just combining two random guys to make a super team because they had no storylines for said individuals? Well, it looks like World Wrestling Entertainment is trying to rebuild a division that has been broken longer than “fake writers” on this site were given birth to. As of right now there are only a few “Tag Teams” in the WWE. I will no longer count Air Boom because Evan Bourne gets suspended far too often. If I was management, I would let him go. I assume they will do that as soon as his suspension is up and then he can go fight for the X-Division title at Impact Wrestling in 90 days.

So, I hate doing articles in a “List” format. With that being said I’m going to run down a few teams and other ways the WWE can improve their Tag Team Division in a “List’ish” format. Not a list, but list’ish. Get it? Good. Let’s get to it.

The Tag Team Champions of the entire World! Epico and Primo. How can they not have a Tag Team name? Vince is semi racist when it comes to minority talent, so you’re telling me he was not throwing around a bunch of bigotty type names for these guys? They are talented in the ring. Rosa is a good thing to look at ringside. I just don’t know how much charisma either of these guys have or if Rosa will provide that for them. Despite that, I’m fine with them being the current champs. WWE had to do a title dump and they are the only heel Tag Team in the WWE at the moment. Good for you Epico and Primo, or as I will now dub you, “Affirmative Action”.

Next up is the team I would assume is next in line for a feud with “AA” and that would be The Usos. They are brothers, so naturally they have a Tag Team name. I love these guys. They are fantastic in the ring and seem to want to be great. They have that drive that makes them true WWE “Superstars”. It appears they have charisma or that they really want to have it. It’s to hard to tell sometimes. Some people over compensate for charisma and become annoying (ie Heath Slater), but I do believe the future is bright for this pair. That is if they can keep their weight in check. Genetics baby!

Ok, so here is when this gets a little tricky. I’m sure there are some people who randomly team up. Mostly people at house shows or whatever Internet shows WWE thinks we want to watch. I can’t count them. I don’t know them. So I am going to try to let you know where they can get 8 more teams from. 10 teams seems like a deep enough division. Oh, I don’t know, enough to carry a “Tag Team Tuesdays” lineup on the WWE Network (Am I pushing for this hard enough yet?).

WWE can raid other companies. TNA sucks, but some of their talent doesn’t. Sadly, they are starting to break up Tag Teams and put a bunch of random guys together, but Vince does not care about another company’s storylines nor do you. Get Beer Money in. They can be heel, face, in that grey area or whatever, but for a period of time they were good in and outside of the ring and I’m sure they could recreate that magic in the WWE. Also, let me stress this, I BARELY watch TNA. I find it horrible and disgusting, but when I do watch, I see that Bully Ray has developed into one of the best heels in the world, and that’s in any company. WWE should bring back the Dudleys, even if it’s just so they could drop Ray into singles competition. He has gotten really good at his heel role. Plus he is in the best shape in his life. Not only do you strengthen the Tag Team Division, in the short future you break them up so Bully Ray goes on to be one of your top heels. Everybody wins.

We are up to 4 Tag Teams now. Damn this is hard. Ok, so ROH has some obvious Tag Team choices that WWE can also raid. They could bring back the World’s Greatest Tag Team, The Briscoe Brothers, and a team made up of two of their top smaller competitors. Guys who are great, but WWE thinks are too small to be main eventers can become a great Tag Team if paired together. I won’t even name the two guys from their roster they would pick, I’ll let you Indy fans get yourself wet and think of the two yourself.

We are up to seven teams that quickly. Six out of those seven add a legit feel to the Tag Team Division (outside me being too lazy to team up two ROH guys). Alas, we know Vince. He does not want outside talent to dominate his division. So for the final Tag Team you must go to the depths of FCW or guys on the main roster who are never on TV. Get them matching outfits, a name, and have someone teach them how to work together. I don’t follow the FCW as closely as some people do so I can’t name the top 5 prospects down there. So I’m not going to try to tell you what two people should be paired up it, but I’m sure they are high on a couple of guys down there that they could pair up to make an impact in the Tag Team Division. Maybe they are high enough on one guy and not so much on another, but they can simply put together in a team just so they could split them up later on to push the more talented of the two like they have done with numerous other Tag Teams in the past.

Ok, so we got eight teams in total. Sadly, the last two I either got lazy on, or I’m not as talented as I would like to believe. Maybe I should have just stuck with eight total Tag Teams. F me. Well, either way it’s very possible for the division to get built back up rather quickly. What I just wrote can be done in less than a year and with the WWE Network coming soon, they can finally add my oh so wanted “Tag Team Tuesdays” to the line-up. Real quick on my Tag Team Tuesdays Line-up idea for the network (it’s not long enough to write an article on so I’ll throw it on at the end of this one) the network needs programing. A show like this is a great way to get talent a chance to shine and develop storylines. Even ones outside the Tag Team Championships so when RAW or a PPV comes along we will actually care about the teams involved. Ok, that is all.

I would like for The Uso’s to be taken more serious as a team. They have all the tools to be successful. I like Primo and Epico though. Reminds me of the Boriquas from back in the day. Raiding other company’s would be great. That’s what they did in the 90’s and it worked out good for them. Beer Money should stay as singles wrestlers though. They are kicking as individually as singles competitors, but there was a time where I wished they would have went to WWE as a team. World’s Greatest Tag Team would be a good return just for Shelton Benjamin alone. Can’t really speak on FCW, but they just put Kofi Kingston in a tag team with Maosn Ryan at a house show. I hope that team is not official because Kofi deserves better. I wouldn’t mind him teaming with Justin Gabriel, even JTG would be better than Mason Ryan. I feel bad for JTG because he was poised to have a good tag team run with Cryme Tyme, but WWE decided to split them up way to soon. Oh well.

    • January 21, 2012 at 8:56 pm

Kofi is stuck. They don’t have a storyline for him. I read about the Mason Ryan team up, I imagine they are doing try outs for partners. That would be a horrible choice. I keep forgetting JTG still has a job, if they can find him a partner, it would be great b/c they can bill him as a tag team specialist like they used to do to marty jannetty all the time lol.

I read somewhere(LOP maybe) that Kofi might be getting a singles push soon.

And I still want The Uso’s finisher to be called “Uso Crazy”!

      • January 22, 2012 at 1:32 pm

I rather be future endeavored than be the next Marty Jannety, lol. I think Kofi should go singles and once again get into a secondary title picture like he always seems to do.

  2. January 21, 2012 at 9:50 pm

I think the Uso’s deserve a legitimate run, becuase they’re better than Epico and Primo in my opinion.

Tag teams can be made easily by just sticking two similar guys in the same colour tights. Tag team wrestling is still exciting, especially when it’s with real teams and not Teddy’s bunch of men in the ring special.

Agree about the Usos. They have more chemistry. E and P have improved though.

    • January 22, 2012 at 1:34 pm

Affirmative Action would work better if they were black. They remind me of Mexican America from TNA minus a bitch so maybe Puerto Rican America?

    Capt. Smooth :
And I still want The Uso’s finisher to be called “Uso Crazy”!

And Booker T needs to scream it when they do it.

Just face the facts, tag team wrestling is a dead concept.

      January 22, 2012 at 11:09 am

Not dead, but it is wounded. I hope it can be rebuilt.

      • January 22, 2012 at 1:35 pm

There is only two teams. The Divas Division is stronger at this point.

Well, when you have Beth, Nattie, Tammy, and Kaitlyn, you’re going to be pretty strong.

          • January 22, 2012 at 3:05 pm

            Kaitlyn is still green.

Oh yeah, she looks like she could bust a watermelon between her thighs.

                      *guy nod*

  5. January 22, 2012 at 1:37 pm

A guy who went to the Money in the Bank PPV said that the brother of the Black WWE ref said the Usos will get a big push soon. Expect them to become the tag team champs sometime this year.

    • January 22, 2012 at 2:12 pm

I’ve been reading about their big push for over a year now. Nothing has happened. I think their push went to Air Boom and if they get the championships now I wont consider it a push since they are the only other team to challenge for the belts.

      • Capt. Smooth
        January 22, 2012 at 2:56 pm

Luckily for them, they’ve still got plenty of time.

        • January 22, 2012 at 3:06 pm

You never know in WWE. They like to break teams up just to release them later on.

            January 22, 2012 at 3:08 pm

The other will just go to Impact and get lost in the shuffle.

            • January 22, 2012 at 3:14 pm

True, lol. I’m guessing they keep the skinniest Uso and send the chubby one packing.

                They’re both gaining.

The one with the tat is smaller.

Josh Matthews always points it out.

    Sure he does. 🙂

    I know.

    • January 23, 2012 at 1:31 pm

Lol, he really does though. I’m surprised The Usos haven’t been involved in an angle with The Bellas, them being twins and all.

            I’d actually like that.

            • January 24, 2012 at 5:56 pm

Then they could cheat on each other, lol. Funny thing is The Bellas like The Usos can be told apart by their tattoos.

The Worlds Greatest Tag Team would be a nice addition. They can also pair up guys like Justin Gabriel and Tyson Kid or have Ryder convert Curt Hawkins into a broski and reunite them as a team. The Bro Warriors has a nice ring to it.

  8. January 23, 2012 at 12:44 pm

I want to see the Briscoes in The WWE. They’ve done all they can do in ROH, time for Dem Boyz to make it bigger.

    • January 23, 2012 at 1:36 pm

I think they are too gangster for WWE. They would have worked extremely well in the Attitude Era though.

You can certainly see your expertise within the
work you write. The arena hopes for even more passionate writers such as you who aren’t
afraid to mention how they believe. All the time go after your heart.
