Let’s Get Ready To Rumble!!! A 25th Anniversary Preview Of The 2012 Royal Rumble

by THE INFAMOUS JCITY™

This Sunday marks the 25th Anniversary of the Royal Rumble PPV and to celebrate I will preview every match on the card while predicting the winners and losers of every match, including the illustrious 30 Man Royal Rumble Match, where the winner will receive a coveted World Championship opportunity at the biggest PPV of the year. The Road To WrestleMania starts now.

CM Punk © vs Dolph Ziggler with Special Guest Referee John Laurinaitis ~ WWE Championship Match

Just last year Dolph Ziggler failed to win the World Heavyweight Championship from Edge at the Royal Rumble, so the question is, can he break his Rumble losing streak by defeating CM Punk for the WWE Championship? My answer is yes, but not in the way I originally thought. Before this week’s episode of RAW, I was sure that CM Punk was going to get screwed out of the WWE title by the Special Guest Referee, but seeing as John Laurinaitis’ position as RAW General Manager is currently under evaluation by the Board of Directors, I don’t see that happening anymore. RAW really killed the momentum of this match, let alone the unpredictability factor. Punk hit Laurinaitis with the GTS already so there won be any payoff we haven’t already seen on that end, and other than the title being on the line, this will be the same exact match between Ziggler and Punk I’ve already seen for free on more than one occasion. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that these two won’t go on to have a great match, because the talent is obviously there, it’s that it doesn’t feel fresh to me whatsoever and the one thing making it new and exciting (the uncertainty of the Special Guest Referee) is now null and void. Now, if the fax Laurinaitis received on Monday ends up being fraudulent, then he might just have found a way to lure CM Punk and the fans into a false sense of security on his way to giving Punk the screwing of a lifetime. There’s no way he’s going to let that GTS slide, right?

What I think is going to end up happening is Ziggler and Punk are going to go on and have the best match they have had between them and in the mist of the action Laurinaitis ends up getting knocked the fuck out thus pulling off the ref bump of doom. While he’s down, Chris Jericho will come down and fuck CM Punk up, because let’s face it, people are going to cheer Jericho no matter what he does. He’s Chris fucking Jericho for crying out loud. He can take a shit in the middle of the ring and wipe his ass with pages he just ripped out of a Bible and the fans will still cheer him on. The only way to effectively get people to hate him would be for him to attack the hottest face in the WWE today, CM Punk. He did promise that this Sunday would be the end of the world as we know it and I doubt he’s only referring to the Royal Rumble Match itself. It’s going to be the end of The Best In The World’s WWE Championship reign. I can feel it. This will surely kick off a WrestleMania feud between Jericho and Punk even if Jericho doesn’t necessarily go on to win the Rumble. By the time Laurinaitis regains consciousness, Ziggler will hit the ZigZag on Punk and win the WWE Championship. I’m also predicting that the next night on RAW, Punk cashes in his rematch clause and wins back the WWE Championship placing Ziggler’s World title reigns among the shortest in WWE history.

Winner And New WWE Champion: Dolph Ziggler

John Cena vs Kane

This match is bound to be a real slobberknocker. I expect nothing more than a true beat ’em up, drag ’em out encounter. The rivalry that has developed between these two assclowns in the last month has been must see TV every Monday Night on RAW and I expect a highly physical brawl from these guys at the Royal Rumble. Kane has been on a fucking roll since his return and continues to prove why he is Satan’s favorite WWE Superstar by destroying everybody that crosses his path on his way to helping Cena embrace the hate that consumes him from within. If Kane was a therapist his degree would have been revoked a long time ago due to the extremes he has gone to get Cena to cross over to the darkside, but his efforts seem to be working. Sure, Zack Ryder got totally destroyed in the process, but somebody had to get sacrificed for the greater good of the WWE, and when it comes to the WWE, everybody knows that there is no greater good than John fucking Cena. I’m convinced Cena has sacrificed a couple of goats and other small animals in the name of Satan in order to get and maintain his current position in the WWE, and it’s apparent that those sacrifices are no longer enough to please the Dark Lord of Hell so Satan sent his favorite WWE Superstar to not only find John Cena, but knock some fucking sense into him by kicking his fucking ass and forcing him into doing his evil bidding.

That’s right, when Cena eventually lets the hate consume his soul it won’t be because of the fans that boo him, it won’t be because of the guilt he feels for almost having Zack Ryder killed, and it sure as hell won’t be because of the motherfucking Rock. No, the hate will flow through his veins in the name of Satan himself. In order to get to that point though Kane must kick John Cena’s ass like nobody has ever kicked his ass before. I have a feeling that both men will go hard in the first few minutes of the match, beating each others asses without remorse, until Kane gains the upper hand. Cena will eventually mount a decent offence, but none of his moves will phase the sick and sadistic Kane. I feel that the only way for Cena to tap into his inner hatred, he will have to beat on Kane only to realize that his best just isn’t enough. Kane can mock Cena and ask him if that’s all he has to which Cena will respond by letting the hate flow through his body, allowing the Devil to consume his soul as he unleashes the most brutal beatdown ever seen in a WWE PPV. After the match, Cena will feel such an adrenaline rush that he feels rejuvenated enough to want to compete in the 30 Man Royal Rumble Match. Cena will like the evil he let influence his brutal beatdown of Kane and he will feel that maybe he should fully cross over to the darkside in order to have the best chance of also winning the Royal Rumble.

Winner: John Cena

Daniel Bryan © vs Big Show vs Mark Henry ~ Triple Threat Steel Cage Match For The World Heavyweight Championship

Yet another Mark Henry vs Big Show match, this time made tolerable by the inclusion of Daniel Bryan and a Steel Cage. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve had more than enough of Mark Henry vs Big Show. Their matches are usually the equivalent of a shit sandwich, but at least the WWE had the courtesy of putting cheese on this one. Or is it tofu now that Daniel Bryan is a Peta Award Winning Vegan? Whatever. I’m sure Daniel Bryan is going to win this match, but the question is how? His slow burn heel turn makes me believe that he will take a beating in this match, only to end up winning by going out the cage door in a desperate attempt to keep his title. The Daniel Bryan mark within me says he will win in dominant fashion and submit one of his opponents, but I doubt he wins that way. If I had it my way, Daniel Bryan would enter the cage and destroy both Henry and Show as quickly as possible and just walk out. Sorta like this:

I would also love for him to climb on Big Show and use his height against him as he climbs out the cage, but that might just be too brilliant of an idea for the WWE to pull off. So, unless Mark Henry ends up breaking the cage again as all three men end up crashing to the outside rendering this match a no contest, Daniel is going out the fucking door in cheap heel like fashion. Any other outcome that is not Daniel Bryan retaining his championship will piss me the fuck off. Henry had a good run with the World Heavyweight Championship, but this is Daniel’s time so I don’t see Mr. Hall of Pain regaining the belt he lost at the TLC PPV and I can really care less about the Big Show at this point. Plus I want Daniel Bryan to win just so he could run up the ramp screaming YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! like he is having an earth shattering orgasm.

[||]Pause.

Winner And Still World Heavyweight Champion: Daniel Bryan

30 Man Royal Rumble Match

The Royal Rumble returns to its traditional 30 man format this year as every WWE Superstar fights for the chance of winning a World Championship opportunity at “The GrandDaddy Of Them All”, WrestleMania. This over the top rope elimination match is one of the hardest matches to predict due to the amount of big name stars involved. Any WWE Superstar is eligible to compete in this match and Mick Foley will also be a participant this year. I’m interesting in seeing if he will come out as Dude Love, Cactus Jack or Mankind every time he ends up being eliminated. Sure, it will take away a spot from some jobber who wasn’t going to win anyways, but it will be great for nostalgia’s sake. Then there is the potential of surprise entrants and WWE returns. Since it would be impossible to sit here and try to give a play by play of what I think will happen or who I think will be making a return, I will name the 5 guys who I think might just pull off the win and go on to main event WrestleMania 28 and those guys are:

Randy Orton

The Royal Rumble PPV will emanate from St. Louis, the hometown of a returning Randy Orton, so he’s the obvious choice to win. In the last couple of years WWE has gone the predictable route with the Royal Rumble winners and while WWE Superstars rarely fare well in their hometowns, Randy Orton is a big enough name to headline WrestleMania, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Orton pulled off the win here and challenged Daniel Bryan for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. In my opinion, no one else on the Smackdown roster is credible enough to headline the biggest PPV of the year and when it comes down to a Mania main event, Randy Orton vs Daniel Bryan makes the most sense to me. Not only would those two put on one hell of a match, but if they want Bryan to rise in the ranks as one of the top heels in the business, he needs to have epic battles with the top faces WWE has to offer and they don’t get any bigger than Orton. Both men would benefit greatly from such a feud so betting on Orton to win the Rumble in order to make that happen doesn’t seem like to much of a gamble.

Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho said that this Sunday will be the end of the world as we know it, so I expect him to drop the crowd pandering antics and get down to business. I seriously doubt that Jericho came back to the WWE just to waste time and become nothing more than a joke, so I can see him coming in and eliminating a bunch of Superstars in order to prove that he is still the best at what he does. Before he spoke on RAW, I thought he was going to just come out and do his new tired routine until one man was left standing and he was going to come in and eliminate them, winning the Rumble without really trying as the PPV came to an end, but now I just don’t see that scenario playing out. I also doubt Jericho comes out as a face. He will debut his new darker side at the Rumble. Maybe he even reveals his true purpose (bigger than just feuding with Punk), but that’s just wishful thinking on my part. If by chance Jericho does not win the Rumble, it will be because of his actions earlier in the night where he cost CM Punk his WWE Championship, so in an act of revenge Punk comes out, tosses Jericho over the top rope, and then continues to beat his ass as they fight all the way to the back.

Triple H

To the best of my knowledge there has been no official list released with the names of this year’s Royal Rumble participants. The only thing WWE has said as of now is that any WWE Superstar will be eligible to compete. While some might think that pertains to returning WWE Superstars, I think it pertains to those on the active roster only and the only four wrestlers that are still considered WWE Superstars, but hardly ever compete would be Kevin Nash, The Undertaker, The Rock and Triple H. I seriously doubt The Rock is going to win the Rumble, so I’m not even going to entertain that thought. So yeah, Kevin Nash has gone on record to say that he won’t be in the Rumble, and he supposedly retired after his match against Triple H at the TLC PPV, but heels lie so I wouldn’t necessarily take him at his word, but if he does come back, do I see Nash winning the Rumble? Fuck no. So that only leaves Taker and Triple H. Do I see The Undertaker returning and winning the Royal Rumble? Not really. I mean, I can see him returning, but winning, no way. At this point Taker only has about one match per year left in him so I doubt WWE would put him in a WrestleMania main event. I have a feeling that if Taker does return it would be to stop Kane from the destruction he has brought upon the WWE since returning to the company.

So that only leaves Triple H. Do I see Triple H winning the Royal Rumble this year? Yup. I’m surprised he hasn’t already abused his position as the COO to book himself to win every single championship the WWE has to offer. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if Triple H went on to win the Royal Rumble, find a way to unify all the titles at WrestleMania, goes on to win both Money In The Bank briefcases and ends up being the sole survivor on whatever team he’s on at this year’s Survival Series PPV. Triple H is a name Vince McMahon can trust to carry a WrestleMania main event, so don’t be surprised when he comes out and starts throwing everybody over the top rope.

The Miz

The number one entrant in this year’s Royal Rumble might just end up pulling the upset of the year this Sunday. Alot of people are writing The Miz off as having no chance in hell of winning the Rumble, but let’s not forget that this time last year The Miz was the WWE Champion who went on to headline WrestleMania 27. If The Miz realizes that this might just be the only chance he ever has of headlining two WrestleMania’s in a row, it might just make him elevate his game and start taking his craft a bit more seriously. He has become nothing more than an afterthought after losing the WWE Championship and while he has tried to remain in the spotlight, things just haven’t been the same for The Miz. If he was to pull off a victory from the number one position, he will join an elite group of WWE Superstars that did the same before him such as Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit. The fans who see him as a joke will have no choice but to take Miz serious and respect him as a wrestler after such a feat. He can even turn face in the process and become an underdog type character people can depend on to pull off the big wins where it really counts, but knowing Miz he’ll just brag about his Rumble victory all year long.

John Cena

After destroying Kane and relishing the hate, Cena will take his new-found attitude over to the Rumble match where he will dominate everyone. Cena will eliminate the most wrestlers in the match setting the all-time record previously held by the Superstar he defeated earlier, Kane. This will be the moment Satan recognizes Cena as his new favorite WWE Superstar and everyone that dares stand in his way will be annihilated. Some of you might be thinking, isn’t Cena facing The Rock at WrestleMania 28? Why would he need to win the Royal Rumble when his Road To WrestleMania is already secured. Well, the answer to that question is quite simple:

If you thought Cena was unstoppable as a face, wait until you see what he becomes once he embraces the hate. He is going to be a human wrecking machine and the only thing that could stop him would be if John Connor sends a robot through time (Ryback will be the one that stops Cena? There is no God!!!) just to stop him. In the meantime, Cena will feel like not only can he wrestle and beat The Rock at WrestleMania, but he could go on to win the WWE Championship in the same night thus cementing his legendary status in WWE history. I wouldn’t be surprise if he snatched up some random jobber in the middle of the match, hopefully Santino Marella, rips him in half and drinks his blood in order to put over just how evil he has become. Cena will then continue his onslaught until A) Jesus Christ drops from the Heavens and dropkicks Cena straight to Hell where he belongs or B) The Rock makes a surprise appearance and eliminates Cena from the Rumble. I think B is the most realistic option. Not only do I see that happening, but it would really piss Cena off adding even more fuel to his new-found hatred based attitude.

Maybe Jericho has reached that “legacy” status where he has the fans’ respect no matter what he does. Similar to what Taker has.

LOL@ the Scorpion gif and the HHH titles pic!

I heard about a week ago(LOP maybe?) that Carlito may be a shock entrant in the Rumble and if it goes over well, he may be brought back.

    • January 27, 2012 at 8:29 am

I couldn’t have been LOP. I read LOP every day and I don’t remember seeing that.

    • January 27, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Scorpion rules!!! Carlito was rumored to be a surprise entrant last year, but so was Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Neither ended up happening. This year I’ve heard of a Batista return and The Rock might just make an appearance, but I think he will just eliminate Cena from the Rumble if that’s true and nothing more.

  2. January 27, 2012 at 8:37 am

I don’t think Randy Orton will win.

    Three reasons:

    1. I think winning in his hometown is too illogical.
    2. Winning wouldn’t make his injury angle look good.
    3. He has already won before and I can’t imagine him winning twice before John Cena, Undertaker, or Triple H.

    • January 27, 2012 at 1:30 pm

Injury angle is over. Vipers heal fast I guess. WWE Superstars don’t fare well in their hometowns especially on PPV, but CM Punk broke the curse so maybe Orton can pull it off. I can see Orton winning more Rumbles before his career is over. In 10 years time Orton and Cena will break all types of WWE records. Rumble wins, Championship reigns, etc etc It may not seem like it, but they are this generations Rock and Stone Cold.

    January 27, 2012 at 12:10 pm

Great read. My predictions are CM Punk keeps his title, Daniel Bryan wins his match, Kane wins his to keep the story going and Jericho wins the Royal Rumble.

    • January 27, 2012 at 1:34 pm

I really think Cena will win instead of keeping the Kane feud going. He will then spend the next month destroying everything and everybody until The Rock puts his boot up his ass and snaps him back to reality. Cena will probably be heel for 2 months tops.

  4. January 27, 2012 at 12:13 pm

I think Jericho and Orton have the best chances of winning.

    • January 27, 2012 at 1:38 pm

Miz is awful… naw, he’s cool, just hasn’t been the same since winning AND losing the WWE Championship. The best Miz was the one that had both the US title and the Undisputed Tag Team titles then went on to win MITB and was in the hunt for the WWE title. That Miz was awesome.

        • January 28, 2012 at 9:57 am

I do too. I hate how the WWE fails to follow their storylines. Once they blew up Mr. McMahon in a limo and he still appears on the show, that’s when we knew that the WWE doesn’t give a shit about storylines. The WWE needs to be like Star Trek. The new Star Trek movie wouldn’t hire William Shatner because they killed his character in an earlier movie. The WWE would have said, “If it makes us more money, we’ll find a way to make it work.”

          • January 28, 2012 at 6:59 pm

At first I thought it was Shawn Michaels because it started right after he had retired so it would have been a way to keep him on TV, but I think he turned it down and they never figured out what to do with the angle.

I watched that match yesterday (on the one disc of my WWE BEST PPV MATCHES 2011 blu-ray that actually works). That match was a little bit boring in the beginning but the last few minutes were really good. Watching Sign Guy at ringside made the match more entertaining.

I think I heard he wears it so he can easily be identified at WWE Events. Sign Guy is the most controversial WWE fan of all-time. Sometimes he tries too hard to be apart of the action. I love how he over-sells what is happening in the ring.

Boy this is a anti miz place…next thing your guys are going to tell me is Marty Jannetty was not a great tag team specialist

It’s also pretty Anti-Ryder (Kegger) and Anti-Santino (JCITY) at times. No un-bias here af theinfamousjcity.com, if you hate someone you freaking say it.

I’m not anti-Ryder. I just think the WWE over-rates his value. The fans want him on TV more but they don’t want him to be US Champion. For example, I got a Scalabrine update. A few days ago, Scal shot a three-point with less than 30 seconds left in the game against the Pacers with the Bulls down two points. He missed. The fans are mad at the coach for having him in the game so late in the game in a crucial situation. So the fans want to see Scal play but only when the game has already been decided. He’s just a comedy act just like Zack Ryder.

I don’t think so. I don’t think it was as nice as ADR’s cars but it wasn’t awful.

That’s why they should’ve kept it at 40.

Dolph Ziggler in the rumble. That must mean Kane, Big Show, and Cena could be in the rumble.

As I was saying, Kofi almost fell out of the ring but he put his hands on the floor to keep him from falling out. So Miz grabbed his legs and flipped him out of the ring. But Kofi was able to do a handstand that prevented his feet from hitting the ground. He “walked” to the ring steps and was able to get back in the ring. Best spot since the Morrison “Spiderman” spot.

Wow, you just totally brought back memories. Me and my friend still laugh at that to this day. Road Dogg and Billy Gunn were two of the laziest workers back then. I think every match Billy Gunn has at least one screw up.

  34. January 29, 2012 at 10:26 pm

6 spots left…no cena, Kane, Jericho, Orton, Brodus Clay, or Triple H yet.

  35. January 29, 2012 at 10:28 pm

Jack Swagger #25…wtf? No huge stars yet. Where’s Kane, Cena, Orton, and Jericho? Where’s Brodus Clay?

  36. January 29, 2012 at 10:30 pm

Road Dogg gone…four spots left…still no Jericho, Orton, Cena, or Kane. Or Brodus Clay. One of them is not in the match.

  37. January 29, 2012 at 10:31 pm

David Otunga? So no Kane in the match?

  38. January 29, 2012 at 10:32 pm

Orton is #28. Huge pop. Jericho must be #30. Who is 29?

Was I the only one who thought it was extremely funny how all three announcers were bashing each other about entering the rumble, then come to find out, each one had a slot in the Rumble? How funny was it that each one would get eliminated and then go back on the mic and talk about it? I just thought that was a nice touch. Also, Foley made me laugh. His bit with Santino was halarious. I loved the fact that Foley was convincing people who to attack.
